This is a Brisbane to Phillip Island motorbike route for MotoGP 2026 (the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, 23 to 25 October). It stays on bush and country roads, with a mix of camping and pub accommodation: the tablelands, the Snowy Mountains, then the Great Alpine Road down into Gippsland.

MotoGP 2026 at Phillip Island: what to know before you go

  • It is billed as the last one. The organisers call the 23 to 25 October round the final MotoGP at Phillip Island, and the 30th race held there.
  • Prices are frozen at 2025 levels. Tickets start at $50, with Sunday Island Pass tickets from $99. Campgrounds are sold as their own ticket category, so book those through the event.
  • Music on track. Jimmy Barnes plays trackside on Saturday 24 October as the sun sets, and Melbourne band Jet plays after the Sunday race. Both are included with the day’s ticket.
  • The ASBK is on the bill. A points round of the 2026 Penrite Australian Superbike Championship runs on the same weekend.
  • Last year was a classic. Raúl Fernández took his first MotoGP win here in 2025, Marco Bezzecchi won the sprint, and the crowd was the biggest at the Australian Grand Prix since 2012.
  • The title is tight. In the recent standings, after the Japanese round at Motegi (round 16 of 22), Jorge Martin led Marc Márquez by two points, 333 to 331, with Bezzecchi third on 284. Check the latest standings, because they will have moved.
  • The circuit is 4.448 km around, on the coast of Phillip Island, with gate traffic that backs up for an hour on race mornings.

Distances after day one are measured along the routes we planned. They are long days. Take a sixth day if you can.

Day 1 and 2: the New England side

Brisbane to Armidale is its own ride in the app, with fuel and lookout stops. From Armidale, the road south goes through Walcha, then Nundle, an old gold town at the foot of the range, a good pub-night candidate. Fuel at Murrurundi before the quiet run through Merriwa to Mudgee, where there are plenty of pubs and caravan parks.

Day 3: Mudgee to Cooma

Through Bathurst (fuel, and Mount Panorama if you want a lap of it), Oberon, and Goulburn, the last big-town fuel before the Monaro. Cooma is the gateway to the Snowy Mountains, with motels, pubs and caravan parks. Ring ahead.

Day 4: the Snowy Mountains to Omeo

Fill the tank at Jindabyne. Then the mountains, Corryong in the Murray Valley, and the quiet paved road to Benambra and Omeo. In Omeo, the Golden Age Hotel says it welcomes bike groups, and the Omeo Motel and Colonial Bank Motel are on the main street. All three are small.

Day 5: Omeo to Phillip Island for MotoGP 2026

From Omeo the Great Alpine Road drops to Bruthen, where the Bruthen Inn Hotel advertises itself as bike accommodating (phone bookings only), and on to Bairnsdale, where the NRMA Bairnsdale Riverside Holiday Park takes campers and cabins.

After Sale and Traralgon, the best of the bush is at the end. At Boolarra, the Boolarra Community Hotel is a little country pub that lists free self-contained camping. At Mirboo North, the Mirboo North Hotel has rooms, and the Grand Ridge Road runs along the ridge, tight and shaded, damp after rain. Then Korumburra and across to the Island.

On the Island, NRMA Phillip Island Beachfront Holiday Park, Amaroo Park and Anchor Belle Holiday Park list campers or cabins. Gate traffic backs up for an hour on race mornings.

Plan Brisbane to Phillip Island in the app

The whole thing is set up in MotoRidez as one ride from Brisbane to the circuit, 39 stops, with the towns as named stops and the venues in the notes. Drop the bits you do not need, and split it into days wherever suits you. On the way home, the Omeo ride covers where to stop.

Event details are from the official Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix site and race reports, read on 1 October 2026. Listings were read the same day. Rooms, prices and phone numbers change, and nothing here promises a bed. Ring before you ride.
