Great Ocean Road
The famous one. Spectacular, slow, and busy — the good riding is in the Otways behind it.
West-bound puts you on the ocean side, with the pull-offs on your left
Between Torquay and Apollo Bay the road is genuinely beautiful and genuinely congested, with tour buses, camper vans and a speed limit that assumes all of them.
Ride it once for the coast, then turn inland. Turton's Track and the Otway back roads carry a fraction of the traffic and far more corners.
Early morning midweek is the only time it rides the way the photographs suggest.
