The twistiest stretch of State Highway 60 over Takaka Hill between Motueka and Takaka, a steep, winding climb and descent across marble country.
The road climbs steeply out of Motueka in a long run of bends, crosses the open summit and drops just as steeply into Golden Bay.
It is the only main road into Golden Bay, so it carries trucks, campervans and holiday traffic. Expect to be held up on the climb.
Check conditions in winter, when snow and ice can close the summit.
